For the routine thing, it depends. I have a routine in the morning getting ready that I MUST follow or I end up forgetting something important like putting on deoderant. I have a routine in that I go to work at the same time each day, but within my work day I *must* be able to prioritize and shuffle as needed (PRN! lol) to get it all done. I don't have a problem readjusting things that can be adjusted, e.g. dinner dates, projects (to a point), etc., but it throws me off if I have to rearrange an ongoing "set" thing like which nights I go to fencing practice.
